RTI's French Service Returns to Shortwave for August 2026
Radio Taiwan International's French Service is broadcasting directly from its Tamsui transmission site in northern Taiwan throughout August 2026, targeting listeners in Europe and North Africa. The special shortwave transmissions run every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from August 7 through August 30.
One frequency has already changed since the broadcasts were first announced: RTI moved from 11995 kHz to 11850 kHz after listeners reported persistent interference on the original frequency during the German Service's July transmissions. Listeners who helped verify the new frequency were thanked directly by the station.
Listeners who send in reception reports for these August broadcasts can receive a special commemorative QSL card confirming their reception — a nice incentive for anyone logging RTI this month.
Why This Matters
Direct shortwave transmissions from Taiwan, rather than relayed broadcasts, are increasingly rare as international broadcasters shift toward internet delivery. A dedicated multi-week run like this is worth catching while it's scheduled — check our Taiwan schedule page for current frequencies, or tune in live via our Listen Online page.
